Groups needed, racism still exists

Speaking from a black woman’s perspective, I feel the column Carrie Hoover wrote was bogus and unjust (“Separation doesn’t promote unity”SN 10/25). Black people have been fighting for years to gain the same respect as whites, and we still haven’t gotten it.

No one ever said whites could not join Black Student Alliance, or any of the other black organizations on MSU’s campus, it’s just that they don’t want to, whether they feel welcomed or not.

If they were truly interested in the culture of blacks, then they would come anyway.

Whites aren’t pulled over just because they fit the description of someone who committed a crime nor are they harassed while going to the mall just because they come in with a group of people.

When whites have their parties during Homecoming do you see Quality Dairy blocked off by police? No. But when blacks have events such as Fake the Funk, police are posted on every corner.

Whites were saying to fire Bobby Williams every day. Were they saying this because they really think he is a terrible coach or because he’s black?

My opinion is because he is black. I didn’t see anyone saying fire Tom Izzo when the men’s basketball team didn’t make it to the NCAA Final Four.

This is my first year at MSU and I must say I am totally disgusted with the complaints of white people.

It is their job as adults at MSU to educate themselves about other cultures just as they are educating themselves for a degree.

Don’t get mad when black people decide to come together and educate themselves for the uplifting of their people.
