MSU womens golf team ends its fall season at the 2002 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships this weekend at the Gettysvue Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Five of the 15 teams competing in the tournament are ranked in the Top 25 by Golfweek magazine.
The Spartans, who have been off since their sixth-place finish at the New Mexico State GiveEm Five Intercollegiate, held Oct. 7-9, will start juniors Sarah Martin and Allison Fouch, freshman Dayna Burleigh, senior Jessica Till and red-shirt freshman Christy Jonkhoff.
The team will return to action in February at the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
Cross teams gear up for meet
MSU men and womens cross country teams will compete Saturday in the 2002 NCAA Pre-National Meet at the Wabash Valley Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. Indiana State will host the meet.
The womens team, which are rated third in the nation by the FinishLynx Womens Cross Country Rankings, will go up against No. 2 Stanford and No. 6 North Carolina State in the 36-team meet.
Junior Michelle Carson, who won the individual crown at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 28 in Minnesota, leads the Spartans along with junior Jamie Krzyminski, who placed sixth at the same event.
The MSU mens cross country team fell out of the Top 30 poll conducted by the U.S. Cross Country Coaches Association, but have an opportunity to move up in the rankings at this event. The team is led by sophomore Chris Toloff, sophomore Steve Sherer and junior Jason Mueller.
Both teams will return to action on Oct. 25 at the Eastern Michigan Cross Country Classic in Ypsilanti.
