MSU junior quarterback Jeff Smoker has been suspended and will not play in Saturdays game against Wisconsin, according to media reports Thursday afternoon.
Smoker, who has thrown for 13 touchdowns and 1,593 passing yards through seven games this season, was punished for training violations, Lansing TV station WILX reported.
University and athletics department officials declined comment. An official statement is forthcoming.
Smoker is expected to be replaced in Saturdays game by sophomore quarterback Damon Dowdell, who has played in four games this season, passing for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
