A 49-year-old MSU employee reported scrap copper stolen near the Cyclotron on Tuesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.An unknown person took the metal from a trash bin on the south side of the Cyclotron between 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The metal is valued at $50.• A 51-year-old male MSU employee reported a fire in the Bailey Hall basement mechanical room on Monday, MSU police Sgt. Alan Haller said.An electric boiler motor caught on fire at 1:40 p.m. Monday, Haller said.The employee turned the motor on and it made a loud noise before it burst into flames, Haller said.The East Lansing fire department responded, but the fire had already went out, Haller said. The damage is about $800.• A 52-year-old female MSU employee reported her parking permit stolen from her 1994 Jeep Cherokee parked near the Wonders Hall loading dock on Monday, Haller said.Between 8 a.m. Thursday and noon Friday the permit was taken from the car, and the drivers side window was left down, Haller said.The parking permit replacement fee is $2.• A 19-year-old female student reported her wallet and purse stolen from her McDonel Hall room on Monday, Haller said.Between 10:30 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. Monday the items were taken from the unlocked room while the student was sleeping, Haller said.The items are valued at $24.
