Unknown people were caught stealing scrap metal from a recycling bin behind the Cyclotron on Wednesday, said Thomas Glasmacher, an experimental nuclear physics associate professor. The copper, brass and steel scraps were left over from the Cyclotron machine shop, Glasmacher said. The leftover metal belongs to MSU and is supposed to be recycled, Glasmacher said. • Two 18-year-old female students collided on their bikes on the sidewalk by the north end of Spartan Stadium on Tuesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.One student was traveling eastbound trying to avoid a group of pedestrians, McGlothian-Taylor said. The other student was traveling on the sidewalk westbound, and the two bicyclists collided at about 11:20 a.m., McGlothian-Taylor said.The student traveling westbound hit her head as she fell to the ground, McGlothian-Taylor said. The East Lansing Fire Department took her to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, and the other student was not injured, McGlothian-Taylor said. • A 19-year-old male student was hit by a car at Farm Lane and Wilson Road on Tuesday, McGlothian-Taylor said.A 23-year-old Miami resident was driving northbound on Farm Lane as the bicyclist crossed the road eastbound rapidly, McGlothian-Taylor said. The driver didn’t have enough time to stop and proceeded through the green light, colliding with the bicyclist, McGlothian-Taylor said. The bicyclist was conscious after the accident, but was transported to Sparrow Hospital, McGlothian-Taylor said.
