Movie-rental office reopening important test, RHA should be more responsible with money

T the Residence Halls Association’s movie-rental offices reopened their doors Monday, and it is about time. We hope the organization has finally gotten its money management in check.

Budget problems forced RHA to shut down its movie-rental offices in Akers, Brody, Gilchrist and Holden halls in March. RHA officials reported they had overspent the semesterly movie program budget of $82,500 by about $10,595 in just about half a semester.

Let’s hope the organization gets back on track with its spending this semester, because a lot more is at stake.

The Campus Center Cinema and movie rental program were grouped together under the $82,500 movie budget during the spring semester, but their expenses are split this semester. The movie-office budget now is $35,742. The move will hopefully allow RHA officals to manage the movie money better to ensure that it doesn’t disappear so fast.

That financial fiasco was not the first time RHA mismanaged its money.
