East Lansing families will once again adopt 40 to 60 MSU students this school year.
The kick-off for the Adopt-A-Floor program, sponsored by the Community Relations Coalition and MSUs Department of Residence Life, is from 4:30-6 p.m. Sunday in Brody Halls multipurpose rooms A and B. The families and floor mentors will attend an orientation session before the indoor picnic.
The program stopped last year while Shaw Hall was closed for renovations.
Six families will be paired up with seven floors from Emmons and Armstrong halls - one of the families will be paired up with two floors. The families and students will participate in various activities throughout the year.
Three requirements were established for this years program. Families must have dinner with their designated floor, participate in a community event and perform an act of community service. The requirements must be met for each semester.
Janet Lillie, spokeswoman for the coalition, said families and students both benefit from the experience.
Students like seeing a family function, she said. They often miss seeing a family dog, or cat, or kid, while the families get a better understanding of the wild and crazy life of a student.
