Five smoking flares dotted North Shaw Lane near West Shaw Hall three hours after a pedestrian was struck a bus Thursday night. The flares marked off an L-shaped area of about 30 feet as officers measured the scene until about 10 p.m. An East Lansing police dispatcher confirmed a pedestrian had been hit, but MSU police, which handled the accident, did not comment Thursday night. About five MSU police cruisers also saturated the scene with flashing lights as officers investigated hours later.Police detoured traffic eastbound around the accident and westbound traffic through the road by Shaw Hall to Farm Lane. The scraping sounds of glass and debris could be heard as officers shuffled it to the side of the road before they left the scene. A 20-year-old female student reported her $1,400 bike stolen from a bike rack outside of S. Wonders Hall Wednesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The 1999 brown specialized Hardrock bike was secured to the rack with a Kryptonite lock, McGlothian-Taylor said. The lock also was stolen. The objects, stolen between 8:21 a.m. Aug. 21 and 8:26 Aug. 26, were valued at $1,430, McGlothian-Taylor said. A 37-year-old male construction worker reported a jack hammer, drill and other tools stolen from the Cyclotron construction site Wednesday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The items were taken from a locked tool crib between 3:15 p.m. and 7 a.m. Aug. 28, McGlothian-Taylor said. The lock was pried off with an unknown tool, McGlothian-Taylor said. The tools are valued at $2,245.50.
