Entering my last year at MSU, I have seen enough university financial blunders to fill Breslin Center. But now I think I’m starting to reconsider my negative attitude toward whomever distributes our tuition money. Sure, they stopped running all of the campus fountains and closed the Butterfly House, but definitely not without good reason - the newly renovated Shaw Hall has hot tubs and televisions in the bathrooms!

Now I don’t feel so bad about the tuition hike this fall. Who should, anyway? Shaw Hall manager Carol Noud even admitted, “We certainly could have spent more (renovating).” Whenever I feel uninspired to donate money as an MSU alumna, I’ll just think of those Shaw Hall kids, winding down in Jacuzzis and watching MTV in the bathrooms, and remember what a responsible, classy institution MSU is running.
