The purpose of this letter is to encourage Michigan residents and others to communicate to the leaders of India and Pakistan to settle their 50 year dispute without the use of nuclear weapons.

The decision for the United States to drop the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was made to end the war, thus saving millions of lives. Fortunately, we were the only nation that had the bomb. If Japan possessed nuclear capabilities, retaliation could have taken place.

Now we are informed that India has 100 nuclear bombs and Pakistan 50 nuclear bombs. The leaders of theses countries have stated they would not be the first to use this horrible weaponry. But desperate men do desperate things. We are told that unleashing these bombs could kill about 10 million people immediately and millions more afterward by radiation poisoning.

Who knows if this effort will stop this insanity, but if thousands of Michigan residents participate - if the concept spreads throughout all our states - and the leaders of these two nations at war receive hundreds of thousands of e-mail’s, will this expression of worldwide fear and concern influence their decision? Perhaps. Thank you.
