Volleyball adds transfer

May 23, 2002

The volleyball team added transfer student Sara Villwock to its 2002 roster.

Villwock, who appeared in 59 career games for Colorado, transferred to MSU after two years of play for the Buffaloes. The 6-foot-1 outside hitter helped lead Colorado to a 19-11 record in the 2001 season, and consecutive second-round appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

In her career , Villwock averaged 2.73 kills and 2.35 digs per game, as well as racking up 102 assists, 87 blocks and 30 service aces.

Spartan head coach Chuck Erbe said having a quality player come from a program such as Colorado’s shows that MSU’s volleyball program is stepping up.

“It’s a gift to have a player with this kind of experience and athleticism,” Erbe said.

Villwock said it only took one trip to East Lansing before she was hooked.

“I’ve lived in Fort Collins (Colo.) my whole life and was getting kind of restless in Boulder,” Villwock said. “I heard about how competitive and hard-core State was, and one of my goals is to become an All-American, so I decided to make some recruiting trips.

“I only made one and that was to MSU - I loved it, I love the team and the atmosphere here, it’s really great.”
