This summer, junior forward Julie Pagel will become the 14th Spartan to participate in the Big Ten Womens Basketball Foreign Tour.
The squad will travel to Belgium and Hollandfrom June 14-24, playing five games. Last years team went undefeated on its tour, playing against club teams in France and Switzerland.
As a sophomore, Pagels 9.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game helped the Spartans to a 19-13 overall record, 6-10 Big Ten, and a berth in the 2002 WNIT. The Spartans lost to eventual champion Oregon in the semifinal round, 65-54, in Eugene, Ore.
In 2001, the foreign tour team outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points, including a 101-61 victory over Martigny, one of Switzerlands top club teams.
MSU senior forward Maria Recker and senior center Jennifer Callier were members of the 2001 team.
The womens team kicks off this years tour June 16 in Amsterdam, Holland, against Den Helder.
