I am writing, as I expect many people will, regarding the Pi Kappa Phi suspension.
If this isnt a clear-cut case of free political speech, I dont know what is.
Of course they were ridiculous T-shirts. Of course it was a bad idea to wear them. Im not disputing that.
But legal action was simply not appropriate.
How, then, do we show our refusal to tolerate this type of nonsense? By ostracizing the perpetrators socially.
But apathy has unfortunately led to a climate in which any rudeness is forgiven.
Oh, it was a stupid thing to do, but theyre good guys, we say.
And so the offended parties have no other choice but legal action, and what should have been condemned as mere idiocy has been blown entirely out of proportion.
