Runners take 2nd place

The women’s track team placed second in a tri-meet Saturday at Western Michigan. MSU’s 140.5 points were 19.5 behind the host Broncos.

Sophomore Sarah Adelaine placed first in hammer throw at the meet and set a new school record (150 feet, 7 inches) in the process. She also won the shot put and discus throw events at Western and finished second in javelin throw, behind junior teammate Lynlee Phillips. Phillips finished second in the hammer throw.

Junior Sherita Williams won the long jump and triple jump events and finished second in 100-meter hurdles. Senior Swanne Gordon won the 400-meter dash and freshman Renee Kaylor won the 800-meter run.

MSU also swept the 1,500-meter run, with junior Ann Somerville in first, sophomore Jamie Krzyminski in second and sophomore Michelle Carson in third. The Spartans took first and second in the pole vault event thanks to juniors Nicole Grucz and Shiloh Wint, respectively.
