Police briefs 04/26/02

MSU police are investigating the attempted kidnapping of a 7-year-old child from the playground Thursday at MSU Central School Child Development Laboratories, 325 W. Grand River Ave., MSU Police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. Police are looking for a man in his 20s, with brown collar-length hair, crooked teeth, a stud earring in his left ear and his left hand appeared to be injured with a scar on the thumb and fingers. McGlothian-Taylor said the man grabbed the child’s wrist and attempted to drag the child toward his newer model bluish-green pick-up truck with a yellow license plate with black lettering. When the suspect loosened his grip, the child ran away and hid.The man ran away.• A male graduate student reported $2,000 in items stolen from his Baker Hall office Thursday, McGlothian-Taylor said. A digital camera worth $1,500 and a tripod valued at $500 were left unattended in the unlocked office. Police have no suspects.• A male student reported damage to his 1987 Chevrolet in Lot 83 on Service Road Thursday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The gas tank cover was broken and the cap stolen, resulting in $50 worth of damage. Police have no suspects.• A male student reported his cell phone stolen from the second floor of the Main Library Thursday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The phone, worth $150, was left unattended on a table while the student went to find a book. Police have no suspects.• A male student reported a backpack stolen from his West Akers Hall room Wednesday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The backpack and its contents, which included a calculator, textbook and pager, were worth more than $500. The room was unlocked and unattended. Police have no suspects.
