Golfers finish in 3rd

The women’s golf team finished third in a 15-team field at the rain-shortened Lady Buckeye Invitational this weekend. The Spartans’ team score of 604 was seven strokes off the pace of champion Kent State and one stroke behind host Ohio State.

The final round of the tournament was rained out Sunday, making the Lady Buckeye a two-round event. MSU shot 305 in its first round and 299 in the second on Saturday.

Senior Emily Bastel paced MSU and finished tied for second individually in the tournament with a two-round score of 149 (78-71). Her total was two strokes behind individual champion Gabby Wedding of Kent State.

MSU senior Stacy Snider also placed in the top 10 for the Spartans - finishing in a tie for seventh with a 151 (73-78).

The Spartans will attempt to defend their Big Ten Championship this weekend in Champaign, Ill.
