Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

Postponement was necessary action

The State News should be more nitpicky with what it prints in its editorials (“Election errors,” SN 3/14).

In the editorial, The State News attacked the All University Election Commission for the elections impasse. The misallocation of Academic Assembly seats was our prime concern. We felt that was reason enough to ask the elections to be postponed.

The rest of our nitpicky details only compounded our concern with the process and reaffirmed our belief that the elections would have produced skewed results.

Had we let the elections continue, it would have produced the undesirable result of a slew of appeals. These appeals would have been completely justified as the Academic Assembly seats would have had to be entirely redecided as students were misrepresented.

In addition, had the tax referenda passed, it is possible that through appeals, ASMSU would not have had the funds to function. This would have left MSU students without a voice for the upcoming year.

As nitpicky as the commission is, we would like to see some of this rub off on The State News.
