Im disturbed by the improper and unprofessional distribution of funds by the ASMSU Funding Board.
As a student at MSU, I pay a tax that helps support the ASMSU Funding Board and allows it the opportunity to distribute funds to various registered student organizations. Since ASMSU is asking for a tax increase, I would like to see the Funding Board change its policy to one that distributes the funds in an equal and need-based manner.
The Funding Board claims that this is its current policy, but in light of recent events this appears to not be the case. The Funding Board has run out of funds and failed to show up to scheduled appointments with student groups without notification.
Also, the Funding Board needs to track who is receiving funds from the different sections of ASMSU, and how much they are receiving. As it is now, some organizations were given close to $10,000 while other organizations receive no funds whatsoever.
This is especially alarming because the Funding Board appears to be acting on a first-come, first-served basis. I urge ASMSU to review its funding policy and take action.
