Wrestling

The men’s wrestling team hits the road this weekend for matches with No. 19 Wisconsin and Indiana.

The Spartans (3-5 overall, 0-2 Big Ten) duel the Badgers (9-6, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. today, then travel to Bloomington, Ind., to compete with Indiana (8-6, 0-2 Big Ten) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Tennis

The men’s tennis team hosts two matches this weekend.

The Spartans (4-0 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) host No. 75 Ball State (2-1, 0-0 Mid American Conference) at noon on Saturday.

On Sunday, MSU hosts No. 47 Tulsa (6-1, 0-0 Mid American Conference). Sunday’s match, originally slated to begin at noon, has been changed to 10 a.m.

The women’s team (1-0, 0-0) visits No. 75 Eastern Michigan (1-0) at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans will return home on Sunday to host Bowling Green (1-1) at 9 a.m.

Track

Both the men’s and women’s track team will travel to Notre Dame this weekend.

The men’s team (2-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) and women’s team (1-1, 0-0) will compete against eight other teams in the 15th Annual Meyo Invitational at the Loftus Sports Complex in South Bend, Ind. on Friday and Saturday.

Events are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Swimming

The women’s swimming and diving team returns to action at home on Saturday.

The Spartans (5-5 overall, 2-2 Big Ten) host Northern Michigan (6-3) at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The meet will be in IM-Sports West at the Charles McCaffree Pool.

Gymnastics

The gymnastics team takes to the road for a second straight weekend.

The Spartans (2-3 overall, 0-2 Big Ten) will compete in the State of Michigan Classic Sunday in Ypsilanti.

They compete against No. 23 Eastern Michigan (1-1), No. 9 Michigan (4-2, 2-0), Central Michigan (2-3) and Western Michigan (2-5).Events begin at 2 p.m.

Big Ten

Two MSU athletes have been honored as Big Ten Athletes of the Week.

Sophomore Steve Sherer was named Big Ten Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Sherer earned the honor after placing first in the 3000-meter run in a weekend duel meet at Notre Dame with a time of 7:59.6.

Sherer’s mark is the second-best in school indoor history in the 3000-meter run and was only 2.51 seconds from setting a new MSU record.

Senior Carly Weiden was named the women’s Big Ten Diver of the Week.

Weiden earned the honor after two first-place scores against Indiana and Penn State. She had top scores of 312.35 in the one-meter event and 303.95 in the three-meter event.

This is the second time this season that Weiden has earned women’s Big Ten Diver of the Week honors.
