Coach to represent U.S.

February 8, 2002

Women’s golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll will coach Team USA against Team Japan at the Glen Club on July 15-17 in Glenville, Ill.

Slobodnik-Stoll will coach the top four female U.S. golfers at the event.

Seven golfers from three regions of the country (East, West and Central) will be named next month and the winner of each region’s playoff will make the U.S. team. The fourth player will be selected at large.

It’s possible that a Spartan player could be included in the event.

“It’s going to be an awesome experience for me as coach,” Slobodnik-Stoll said in a written statement. “I think it says a lot about our program and what we have done as a team. I think it also makes a great statement for our university and shows that people have respect for Michigan State golf and for the players in the program.

“It’s not about me. I could not have done this without them and I make sure they know that.”

Slobodnik-Stoll has coached MSU for five years and has led the team to three straight NCAA Regional appearances. The Spartans also won last year’s Big Ten championship under her leadership.
