Spikers sign recruit

MSU volleyball head coach Chuck Erbe announced the signing of Caroline Belichto a National Letter of Intent for the 2002-03 season.

“She’s a tremendously well-rounded player that will fit in well with all the players we have here,” Erbe said.

The Illinois native was a three-year letter winner at Lyons Township High School, leading her team to conference and regional championships as a junior and a senior.

Belich, a 6-1 outside hitter, earned all-conference and all-region honors as her team reached the sectional finals the last two seasons.

“She’s a great athlete,” said Erbe. “A very hard-working player, very bright, and definitely will be a tremendous addition to our team.”

Football fills hole

Junior college transfer Matt Walters has signed to play football at MSU in 2002. The 6-foot-2, 245 pound tight end, caught 25 passes for 315 yards and one touchdown at Scottsdale, Ariz. Community College.

With the graduations of tight ends Chris Baker and Ivory McCoy, Walters will have a chance to start immediately.

Warner two-time MVP

Kurt Warner won The Associated Press MVP award.

Warner finished the season with a 101.4 quarterback rating, 36 touchdown passes and an NFL-leading 4,830 yards passing.

This marks the second time in three seasons Warner has won the award.
