Grapplers fall short

The Spartans regrouped to defeat No. 10 Lock Haven 25-10, but couldn’t keep the momentum in their third and final contest, falling to No. 8 Penn State 25-9.

“There were places where we wrestled well and there were others where we had breakdowns,” head coach Tom Minkel said. “But that’s the kind of thing we expect at this high level of competition.”

Iowa downs Spartans

The No. 15 MSU women’s gymnastics team fell to Iowa on Saturday 193.875 to 191.200.

The Spartans counted falls in three of four events.

Junior Christy Linder was one of the few bright spots for the Spartans, finishing first in the floor exercise. She also finished second in both the all-around and the beam.

Head coach Kathie Klages said the performance was a letdown, but following last meet’s showing, this contest wasn’t an easy task.

“It’s a bit disappointing after last week’s results where we had such a strong opening match,” Klages said. “I think the kids were a bit nervous.”
