Creole Gallery to showcase folk

January 11, 2002

Folk duo Mustard’s Retreat has a reputation for being warm, accessible and upbeat during its performances.

“That’s not to say they’re lightweight,” said Meegan Holland, concert presenter for the Creole Gallery, 1218 Turner St. in Lansing.

“Their lyrics are very much about the transitions we face in our lives as we gain wisdom,” she said.

The duo will return to the gallery after a solid performance one year ago, Holland said.

The duo, David Tamulevich and Michael Hough, have performed together for over 25 years and released five full-length albums.

Tamulevich is part of the Fleming /Tamulevich and Associates booking agency in Ann Arbor, which books well-known folk acts such as Ani DiFranco, Holland said.

“He is immersed personally and professional in folk music,” she said. “A lot of people can play their guitars in their bedrooms, but onstage you have got to do a lot more than just play your instrument.

“We’ll probably hear some fresh material,” she said.

Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10, $8 with a student ID and $5 for kids 12 and under. For more information, visit www.creolegallery.com.
