The Lansing Civic Players present the controversial play Breaking the Code, directed by Todd Heywood.
This is the life story of Alan Turing, a 1940s war hero who decoded the Nazi Enigma Code. Turing, a pioneer of computers, was also a closet homosexual.
After the war, his house was burglarized, and during the police investigation Turing revealed his sexuality to an officer. He was later arrested for gross indecency. He received one year probation and was chemically castrated, which resulted in him growing breasts.
Turing later committed suicide because of the harassment and constant surveillance of the British Secret Service.
Breaking the Code runs at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hill Center Auditorium, 5815 Wise Road in Lansing. Tickets for students and seniors are $5, general admission is $10 and children 4 and under are $4 for all shows. Students with an ID get half off on opening night.
