Student ‘perfect’ on admission exam

After grading 391,000 ACT college admission exams from high school students around the county, 12 students in the nation discovered they can claim perfection.

East Lansing High School senior Hogyeong Jeong is one of them.

Jeong scored a 36 on the Oct. 27 administration of the ACT Assessment - he is the only college-bound student in Michigan to do so.

“We are honored to have this student in our school district,” said East Lansing school spokesman Kevin Green.

Jeong declined to comment. He is considering attending MSU in the fall to study mathematics and economics.

PACE awards nominations due soon

The Central Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is now accepting nominations for the 16th annual PACE Awards.

The awards honor outstanding public relations efforts by Mid-Michigan organizations in 2001.

MSU’s Public Relations Student Society of America is helping with the organization of the awards program.

Nominations also are being accepted for the PACE Maker of the Year, which recognizes an individual who has contributed significantly to the advancement of public relations, and PACE Setter of the Year, which recognizes an organization that has used public relations to make an impact on the Mid-Michigan community.

All awards nominations are due Feb. 26. For more information visit www.cmprsa.org.

Group to honor Michigan’s women

The Michigan Women’s Historical Center and Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations for the 2002 Michigan Hall of Fame award.

Candidates must be women who have made a major contribution to Michigan, said Katie Cavanaugh, assistant director for the hall of fame.“We are looking for women who have made a mark in their field whether it be in military, politics or medicine,” she said.

Candidates may be living or dead and must have been born in Michigan or achieved prominence within the state.

Lucile Belen, a 2001 award recipient, said it “feels great” to be recognized. “My mother always told me that you can never expect to be paid back for your contributions, you just do it,” the 88-year-old said.

Former recipients include civil rights activist Rosa Parks and Dean of the White House Press Corps Helen Thomas. The deadline for entries is March 21. For more information call (517)484-1880 or (517)372-9772.
