Flint-based blues band The Blue Hawaiians will perform tonight and Saturday at Jambalayas, 5942 E. Round Lake Road in Laingsburg.
Mark Fontana is the bands singer and bass player.
Were not some happy-go-lucky surf-party band, he said on the bands Web site. Theres beauty to what we do - but also a darkness.
When people try to describe us, they end up saying, The Blue Hawaiians are ... kinda weird. We take that as a compliment.
The band meshes many different types of music, including Western, spy, lounge and surf.
Instead of songs about the endless summer, the bands songs are more about endless temptation, Fontana said.
Weve all been there, he said. Tempted by fame, fortune or sex.
Temptation can be good or bad. It just depends on what you do with it.
Executive Chef John Morton said the restaurant tries to bring in different types of music, including jazz, blues, bluegrass and country.
This is the first time theyll be playing here since Ive been here, he said. Some bands do really well, but a lot of times the bands play and everyone leaves after theyve eaten.
Morton said the weekend shows are a courtesy to guests, and there is no cover charge.
Dinner reservations are suggested. For more information, call Jambalayas at (517)651-9072.
