Police briefs 10/17/01

A lighting fixture in Giltner Hall caught fire Sunday, said MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor. A university employee reported the fixture began burning about 6:10 p.m., but the flames died down and the fire went out a few minutes later. Damage to the fixture was about $50.l A room in South Case Hall was broken into late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, McGlothian-Taylor said. Male roommates reported a window had been left open and the screen broken out. A CD player worth about $70 was taken from the room, along with $250. Damage was about $100. Police have no suspects.l At least eight DVD movies were taken from a room in North Case Hall between 4 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Sunday, McGlothian-Taylor said. One male student returned to the room about 11:30 p.m. to see the door open and clothes scattered around, but thought his roommate had left the room that way. The other roommate later discovered the movies were missing. Police are investigating.
