An autopsy showed Wednesday that Eric James Blair, an 18-year-old from Bay City, drowned in the Red Cedar River.
Police officials say he had been drinking while visiting friends at MSU on Friday, but were unsure of the events leading to Blairs death.
Blair was reported missing Saturday evening after a body was seen floating in the river near Bogue Street about 3 a.m. Saturday. His body was recovered Tuesday about 2 p.m.
The investigation is not completed, said MSU police Capt. Dave Trexler. At this point, his death is considered accidental.
Trexler said the police are still investigating the death.
The department is waiting for more information, and expects to finish the investigation in the next week, he said.
We re-interviewed some witnesses today, and that was the extent of it, Trexler said.
Margie Gillman, Blairs stepgrandmother, said the Delta College student who loved spending time outside and with his family, would be missed.
He was a person that anybody would be proud to have as a son, as a brother or anything else, she said. I just think he would have made a wonderful, wonderful father someday and a wonderful person out in the world.
Visitation for Blair will continue today from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at Bay Citys Trahan Funeral Chapel, and a vigil prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bay Citys St. Boniface Church.
