  • St. John Student Parish: Ice Cream Social, 8 p.m. Sunday, St. John Student Parish. There will be an ice cream social following the 7 p.m. Sunday mass to kick off the new academic year.

  • Asian Studies Center: AS0 Caravan afternoon session, noon to 2 p.m., Sept. 12, International Center Crossroad Spartan B. Three distinguished Japanese speakers will talk about United States/Japanese relations for the last 50 years to celebrate peace between the countries.   • MSU Libraries: “The Birds,” 7 p.m., Friday, Main Library W449. Three years after making “Psycho,” Hitchcock made a foray into the supernatural with “The Birds.” If you don\'t believe that gulls and sparrows can hold you in suspense, think again. Discussion following with Rod Phillips, assistant professor of James Madison College.
