The College Football Hall of Fame canceled its Thursday reception and banquet that scheduled to honor the 104-year rivalry between MSU and Notre Dame.
The event was canceled after the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington and the plane crash in Shanksville, Pa. on Sept. 11.
In light of the tragedies of (last) week we feel that it would be inappropriate to hold such an event, College Football Hall of Fame Executive Director Bernie Kish said in a statement.
Bubba Smith, a former MSU defensive lineman and member of the College Football Hall of Fame, was scheduled to talk at the reception along with former Irish standout Bob Gladieux.
The game between MSU and Notre Dame is still on. It begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, in Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, Ind.
