Before you head out to a special event this weekend, you might want to check that it hasnt been canceled or postponed in light of recent events in New York City and Washington.
Some activities have been canceled as a sign of respect for those dead and missing on the east coast, while others are facing technical problems because of lack of air transportation.
Bridgette Redman, spokeswoman for Bath Community Theatre Guild, said this weekends production of Goodnight Desdemona will be postponed one week. It was originally planned to run Sept. 14-15 and 21-22, but as of Wednesday the only sure dates were Sept. 21-22.
I absolutely think it was the right thing to do, Redman said. It would just seem out of place to do a high-spirited comedy farce when a lot of people dont know that their relatives are safe.
If possible, Goodnight Desdemona will still run for two weekends, but it depends on whether the theater guild will be able to use the stage at Bath Middle School, 13675 Webster Road, for another weekend.
On campus, activities at the Campus Center are still planned to continue as scheduled, barring difficulties.
The films scheduled for Friday through Sunday, including Blow, Shrek and Heartbreakers, are brought by couriers and often transported by air.
Two comedians are scheduled for Friday night at Anthony Hall. One is traveling from Los Angeles and the other from Philadelphia.
Were just kind of waiting, said Jodi Roberto Hancock, Union Activities Board associate manager. Were anticipating theyll be flying by tomorrow.
Saturdays Campus Center events include a local hypnotist and a local palm reader at the International Center. They still plan to appear.
Also, those planning to celebrate Mexican Independence Day on Sunday may want to keep in mind that Mexican President Vicente Fox has called off all celebration in Mexico and across the world.
Its a sign of respect for whats happening here, said Teodoro Alonso, Chicago Mexican consular spokesman.
Despite that, Christo Rey Community Center, 1717 N. High St. in Lansing, has decided to continue its celebration, though it will be postponed one week.
The postponement comes not because of Tuesdays attacks, but because of construction surrounding the center. The celebration will be held Sept. 21 at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave., instead.
We dont want them to have the hassle to get to our streets, said Lorenzo L
