Police briefs 05/21/01

A two-car collision at the intersection of Beech Street and M.A.C. Avenue left the two people involved in the accident with minor injuries.The crash occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday, when one driver failed to yield, police said.Both drivers were taken to Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital for treatment. One had a broken right arm and the other was complaining of neck pains.

  • The East Lansing Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1507 Meadowbrook Lane shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. The fire was under control by 5 a.m., and extinguished by 7:30 a.m.A fire marshal was called to investigate and said the cause and blaze origin hasn’t been determined.Losses are estimated at about $200,000, but no injuries have been reported.
  • At about 6 p.m. Friday, an Ingham County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at eastbound I-96 near M-52 where a male suspect began to remove his clothing and charge the officer with a hammer and crowbar.The suspect got into his vehicle, placing it in reverse and striking both the officer’s car and a civilian vehicle. The driver of the civilian vehicle received minor injuries, police said.Police employed a pepper canister to remove the suspect from his vehicle, and he was taken into custody without injury and taken to the Ingham County Jail, where he will be arraigned. The deputy was examined for a minor knee injury.
  • A signature cello was taken from the Music Building sometime between February and this month.The cello was part of a collection available for students to borrow. The theft was discovered during an inventory of the building. Losses are estimated at $1,000 and police have no suspects.
