The man identified as a suspect in an April 26 East Lansing sexual assault shot and killed himself when police approached him early Tuesday morning.
A Muskegon County Sheriffs Department deputy located Jacob Gingrichs van at about 3:15 a.m. in a county park. When the deputy began to approach the Big Rapids native, Gingrich locked all the vans doors, retrieved a handgun and shot himself, police said.
Gingrich, 25, was identified by East Lansing police Monday afternoon as a key suspect in the assault of a 22-year-old Haslett resident. She reported last week being pulled into a van and sexually assaulted by the suspect at the Division Street Parking Garage.
It is unknown in the investigation is still ongoing.
