Warped, immoral beliefs offensive

I thought free speech was encouraged in our country, but after reading page 5A of Wednesday’s State News, I guess I was mistaken.

John La Fleur expresses his opinion (“Institution of marriage is for heterosexuals,” SN 4/20), and the ultra-liberal MSU student body is ready to crucify him. Don’t the liberals want people to have the right to do and say whatever they please?

I forgot that only applies when it’s something they agree with. When someone doesn’t, they act like a bunch of animals (notice how that comparison keeps coming up?). Take last week’s disgusting and shameful display of ruining Christian Easter messages. Where is there free speech, liberals? I know what would have happened if pro-gay messages would have been tampered with: You would have cried for free speech and quoted anti-prejudice statements by Martin Luther King Jr. or Maya Angelou.

The State News (or the liberal propaganda machine, as it should be called) may have you believe otherwise, but La Fleur and many others are offended by these warped, immoral beliefs expressed on the aforementioned Opinion Page.

The entire page was devoted to anti-La Fleur sentiments, while on the opposite page the editor blathered about journalistic integrity (“Opinion Page is here to address all issues,” SN 4/24). Well, I commend La Fleur for standing up for what he believes in.

It’s unfortunate my fellow students don’t agree.
