School shooter should be blamed

I am the type of person who respects others’ opinions and tries not to enforce my own on anyone else, but when I read the recent opinion column dealing with the subject of school shootings, I was outraged (“Target missed on causes of school shootings,” SN 3/13).

How can anyone dare place blame for the killings on anyone but the shooter? They themselves made the choice to express their anger by premeditated violence. The key word is choice.

There is not a single person alive who has not been teased at some point in life. We’ve all consumed numerous hours of television, movies, etc. If truly desired, I’m sure anyone could access - legally or illegally - a firearm.

Then how come the majority of the American population hasn’t “lost it” and began shooting everyone in their path? Because we choose not to.

We - the bullies, the media, parents, students and the sick individuals who think killing is the only way to cope - need to take responsibility for our own actions.

Human free will is a blessing and a curse. If someone chooses to accept what their tormentors say or do to them and decide the best form of retaliation is a hail of bullets on the entire school, then the bullies are right. They are the losers and that’s no one’s fault but their own.
