Police briefs 03/26/01

A 77-year-old Plainwell man died Friday after having a heart attack on Munn field.The man had been attending a high school basketball tournament at Breslin Student Events Center and was going to his car with his son and grandson, MSU police Sgt. Scott Beckner said.He was pronounced dead at Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital at about 10 p.m.

  • An MSU police officer found the front passenger window smashed out of a 1991 Pontiac parked in Lot 91, at Service and Hagadorn roads.The break-in occurred between 7 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Saturday, Beckner said. An attempt had been made to steal the vehicle’s stereo.The vehicle’s lock had also been damaged. Police have no suspects.
  • A Domino’s Pizza employee reported the pizza sign stolen from his car while parked in front of Rather Hall.The sign was taken between 3:30 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. Saturday, Beckner said.The sign is valued at $150. Police have no suspects.
  • A 21-year-old female student reported her purse stolen from her Yakeley Hall room.The purse was taken from the student’s closet between March 11 and March 16, Beckner said. The student told police she usually keeps her room locked.Losses are valued at $30. Police have no suspects.
  • MSU police arrested a female student Thursday in Yakeley Hall after she assaulted an officer and hall resident.The student entered the resident’s room, whom she did not know, and began destroying property, Beckner said. She also assaulted the resident.When police arrived and asked the student to stop, she raised her closed fists and swung at an officer, Beckner said. She then pushed and kicked the officer in the shin before being restrained and taken into custody.The student was taken to Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing for treatment before being released to her parents’ custody.
