Steve Crosby, the executive editor of the Lansing State Journal, announced to the papers staff Monday that he had been asked to resign from his position.
According to a source close to the publication, Crosby, who has been at newspaper for more than five years, said he would be taking another job within the next two weeks in Ann Arbor.
When contacted by The State News late Monday evening, Crosby only said that he wasnt released from his position.
Michael Kane, the newspapers publisher, was unavailable for comment Monday. Managing Editor Don Hudson declined to comment.
The newspapers daily circulation is 93,985.
In his time at the paper, Crosby dealt with an eight-month long legal battle along with 10 other media outlets, including The State News. The case was spurred by the Ingham County Prosecutors Office, which sought copies of unpublished photographs and film taken during the March 27-28, 1999, riot.
The case ended in September with the state Supreme Court ruling in the favor of the media.
