Cartoons idea was ignorant

I’m writing this letter in response to the Bilicki cartoon that ran in the March 13 edition of The State News.

This cartoon is an example of the ignorance that pervades our society as a whole. The simple fact is that the saying is true: Guns do not kill people, people kill people.

Granted, if the gunman in the Santana High School shooting didn’t have access to a gun, the two students he killed might be alive. But what if the gunman had brought a knife to school and fatally stabbed a classmate or two. It is simply a matter of ignorance and carelessness.

Carelessness by the gunman’s father - the owner of the gun used in the shooting - to properly teach his son proper gun etiquette (i.e. never point a gun at another person unless in self defense). Trivial as it may sound, if a child is taught this before he even picks up a gun, it will stick with him, assuming he is a well-adjusted individual.

I’m not putting all the blame on the parents, but one must look at them and their parenting when examining this whole issue of school violence.
