Gay marriage

I would just like to commend Rishi Kundi for his stance on the gay marriage issue (“Gay marriage not complex issue to understand,” SN 1/31). I feel it is about time someone stepped back and took a look at issues like this.

I have been arguing this issue for years and have seemed to be on the losing side every time, however, my beliefs would not let me quit. Now I see someone with a real voice has stepped forward and made his opinion known. I would just like to throw my hat into the ring right next to his.

I support any and all lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgendered rights. They are, after all, human just like the rest of us and any discrimination because of sexual orientation is as foolish as discrimination on the basis of skin color. It is shameful to me when I realize this world hasn’t evolved enough to be able to even tolerate the minority. This country was formed from a minority and yet former President Clinton signed a law in 1996 that discriminates on that very same basis.

It is my personal wish that every student and faculty member take a step back for one moment and try to think what it would be like. We’ve all been teased or hurt in our lives - just amplify that tenfold and imagine it being the case 24/7 and you will begin to realize what it’s like.

We all have to take that one moment anyway. Anybody may or may not identify as LBGT, and a person’s actions may not always reveal such things. If you have any courage, MSU, take a look from the other side. After all, there are always two sides to a coin and your side may not always land up.
