The Residence Halls Association is sponsoring the second annual Battle Against Cancer movie weekend at the Campus Center this Friday through Sunday.

The movies, also viewing with the regular RHA movie schedule, are free to MSU students and the public, but a $1 donation is requested. Proceeds will also go to the American Cancer Society.

Battle Against Cancer founder Nick Kovacic said the fundraiser is both something students can enjoy and a good way to become involved in their community.

“Its a great cause and great movies, and it doesn’t require any extra effort,” the communication sophomore said.

“We came up with a list of movies that we though would appeal to college students, and showing nine different movies is a huge thing for us as an organization.”

RHA movie director Jerry Roll said the turnout should be high.

“It would be wonderful if we filled up every show,” Roll, a telecommunication junior said.

“The idea is for students to come together, watch great movies and raise money for cancer research.”

“A lot of students know people who have died from or currently have cancer, and it’s important for everyone to realize that this could happen to you at any time,”Roll said.

Ghostbusters, The Silence of the Lambs, Animal House, Happy Gilmore and The Goonies, will be showing at 7:30, 9:30 and midnight all weekend.

All movies will be shown in one theater at the Campus Center. Students can donate to Battle Against Cancer while receiving tickets at the Campus Center box office.
