Police briefs 01/30/01

An 18-year-old student was arrested Saturday on assault charges after he allegedly held a cap gun to a Brody Hall employee’s head.The female employee had asked a group of men who were wrestling and being loud in the hallway to quiet down when one of the men came up from behind and put something up to her head, MSU police Lt. Alicia Nordmann said. The woman said she then heard a click and smelled smoke or gunpowder.Witnesses told the woman later the object appeared to be a gun.

  • A Munn Ice Arena custodian reported two 10-foot wooden benches had been removed from a locker room.The benches had been moved between 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said.One of the benches was found in a hallway a short distance away. The other has not been found.The missing bench is valued at $200. Police have no suspects.
  • Police were called to West McDonel Hall to investigate a possible party Sunday but instead recovered a missing parking meter.The meter was found in the room of a 19-year-old student who was accused of having a party, Willis said. Police did not find a party, but did find the parking meter when the student allowed officers into his room.The meter was confiscated and the student was ticketed for possession of university property.
  • A 20-year-old student reported his backpack missing after he left it in a men’s restroom in the Music Building.The student left the backpack in the restroom Friday and could not find it when he returned Sunday, Willis said.The bag contained several textbooks, CDs and jewelry. The missing items are valued at $375.
  • A 27-year-old student reported her mountain bike stolen from a bike rack at the Communication Arts and Sciences Building.The student had loaned the bike to a friend who had locked it to the rack at 2 p.m. Friday, Nordmann said. When the student returned at 3:30 p.m., only the front tire and lock remained.The bike is valued at $650. Police have no suspects.
