Police briefs 01/26/01

MSU police officers cited several students Wednesday for taking police barricades.The barricades were discovered in the windows of four Brody Complex rooms during a routine foot patrol, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said. Residents of the rooms admitted to police they had taken the barricades.Police recovered five barricades and a police cone from the rooms. The students were ticketed for misuse of police property.

  • A 20-year-old student was arrested Wednesday on several outstanding warrants after he drove his car off a tow truck that was impounding the vehicle for unpaid parking tickets.The student returned to his car that had been parked in front of West Holmes Hall as it was being lifted onto a tow truck, Willis said. He then jumped into the car and drove it off the truck, damaging the truck clamps attached to the car’s front wheels.Damage to the tow truck is estimated at $450. MSU police stopped the student soon after the incident and discovered three warrants from three police departments for the man.The student was arrested and taken to the East Lansing jail until his arraignment on those warrants Wednesday, Willis said.
  • MSU librarians reported 10 expensive books missing Wednesday from the Main Library map room after conducting an inventory.Some of the historical atlases had been removed from their library covers, Willis said. The books have not been inventoried since July 1996 and could have been taken any time since then. The books are valued at $8,900. Police have no suspects.
  • A 22-year-old student was cited for having a BB gun in his Hubbard Hall dorm room.A complex director reported the BB gun was found Jan. 19, Willis said. The student turned over the gun to police. The case has been forwarded to the campus judiciary system.
