Police briefs 01/19/01

A campus worker caught a 42-year-old Mount Morris man taking a handheld computer from a woman’s purse Wednesday at the Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education.The worker said the man looked suspicious as he left a presenter’s booth, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said. When the worker stopped the man to question him, he dropped the $300 device.The handheld computer was returned to the owner, who did not press charges.

  • An 18-year-old male student reported his laptop computer stolen from his Bailey Hall room between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday.The student said he or his roommate probably left the door unlocked, Willis said. The door was found unlocked, but was closed.The computer is valued at $3,000. Police have no suspects.
  • A national atlas of the United States was reported missing from the Main Library.The atlas was last seen July 11, when it was inventoried, and was only discovered missing Wednesday.The book is valued at $500. Police have no suspects.
