Police briefs 01/17/01

A 19-year-old female student reported her season men’s basketball ticket stolen from her back pocket on the day of the Northwestern game.The student said she had been standing in a crowd at the Jan. 9 game and could not find the ticket afterward, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said. She notified Breslin Student Events Center ticket office about the theft. Breslin officials plan to make contact with anyone who sits in the student’s seat.The ticket is valued at $112.

  • An 18-year-old female student reported her backpack missing after she left it in the Brody Hall cafeteria. The student said the bag was removed from the cafeteria between 2 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday, Willis said. A calculator and three textbooks were in the bag.The bag and contents are valued at $350.
  • A 3-inch knife was confiscated from a 19-year-old man during a routine traffic stop Friday, Willis said.The man was stopped by police for running a stop sign. University ordinances prohibit carrying weapons on campus.
  • Police cited two Wonders Hall residents for possession of marijuana Saturday after finding the substance in their dorm room.Police were called to the residence hall after marijuana smoke was detected outside the students’ door, Willis said. The 18 and 19-year-old students denied having the drug but allowed police to search the room.Upon searching, officers found marijuana.The incident has been forwarded to the campus judiciary system.
