Icy walkways should be salted

Apparently I didn’t get the e-mail that the university was conducting open tryouts for the Spartan Hockey Team. As I marched up the Beal Street entrance on my way to class this morning, I wasn’t sure if I was tip-toeing on the campus sidewalks or the playing surface at Munn Ice Arena.

It is absolutely reckless and irresponsible behavior on the part of MSU to not have salted the campus walkways by the time students begin their treks to early morning classes. The icy conditions of the sidewalks were a hazard to pedestrians as well as motorists.

However, I can’t admit I was surprised to find the walkway from the Computer Center parking structure to the Hannah Administration Building completely salted and dry. I wouldn’t want the members of MSU’s administration and staff to be subjected to the same conditions that we students face.

I must admit I’m looking forward to the coming May, not only due to the warmer temperatures, but with a diploma in my hand I’ll be able to sever my ties with this institution that treats its students as second-class citizens.
