When the Spartans take the ice tonight, their opponents wont check as hard as No. 7 Michigan did on Saturday.
In fact, they wont check at all.
The nations No. 1-ranked hockey team, as of Monday night, will square off in Munn Ice Arena at 7 p.m. against the Legal Eagles, a mens league team comprised of area lawyers, in their annual non-contact charity broomball game.
Tickets to the 25th annual game are $4 and proceeds will benefit the Childrens Miracle Networkand help fund a new pediatric emergency room for Lansings Sparrow Hospital.
Tickets for the event are available at the MSU Athletic Ticket Office in Jenison Field House, at Munn or from any local Kiwanis Club member.
MSU head coach Ron Mason said his players look forward to the game.
Our program over the years has been community-minded and we take great pride in that, he said. This year, because its my charity, I really appreciate the support of the Kiwanis and Blue Line clubs.
Mason will match wits with 54-A District Court Judge Charles Filice, the Legal Eagles coach.
All members of MSUs team are expected to participate tonight.
Senior left wing Damon Whittens stepfather, Paul Moggach, will be MSUs honorary goaltender tonight after bidding $500 for the honor at a MSU Blue Line Club Luncheon.
