While I in no way endorse John LaFleurs narrow-minded views ( Retailers sold out Christmas to be politically correct, SN 11/30), I felt it necessary to take issue with some responses the column received.
Susie Farnells letter (Overadvertising is fault of Christians, SN 12/4) was a contradiction in itself. Just because a person is a Christian does not mean they are close-minded, as many people tend to think. If people such as Farnell want to tout respect of other religions, perhaps they should practice what they preach and respect Christianity as well.
I am a Christian, but that does not mean I am going to be disrespectful or ignorant of any other religion. I welcome opportunities to learn as much about them as possible, and in no way do I think my religion stands above any other in society. Farnells implications that Christian traditions are not valid are insulting to the religion as a whole and show an enormous amount of disrespect.
If Farnell wishes to celebrate her traditions without being persecuted, perhaps she should respect the rights of others to do the same.
