I am writing in regard to the editorial cartoon in Thursdays State News. It was a picture of a broken-down bus representing the MSU football team, with Victory written above the windshield. Apparently, the creator of the cartoon is what sports fans call a fair-weather fan, someone who only supports a team when its winning.
I dont know how he was raised, but I was taught to support a team through good times and bad. Just because the Spartans are in a little slump right now doesnt mean we should mock them with distasteful cartoons in our school newspaper - might I add, a newspaper that is read by many people throughout the campus and community of East Lansing.
Instead, we should show our Spartan spirit and back the football team with as much support as possible. One final note, how do you think the football players felt after seeing the cartoon? Its bad enough they are losing, but its even worse when they cant get respect from their so-called fans.
