Caucus made a good decision

This is a response to the State News’ editorial “Pay the price,” (SN 10/18).

Speaking of “should,” Shaw Hall Senate “should” have left well enough alone. Reading The State News and speaking to several students, I believe the senate’s modifications of Shaw’s constitution are simply unfair. Agreeing to the proposal will make it extremely difficult for the Shaw Hall Black Caucus to fund or co-sponsor programs.

All of the black caucuses on campus have been crucial toward the stay, support, growth and activities of the MSU-African American community - not to mention giving leadership and growth of upcoming caucuses. I personally applaud the Shaw Hall Black Caucus for standing for its rights.

Do not fall for anything, people. Not signing the proposal means a lot. When you strongly believe in your organization and human rights, take action - do not follow the lead because the pressure is on you and do not allow others to determine your fate. Speak loud and say something. The article “Pay the price” refers to what price? The price of losing pride and governing power over your organization? It’s sad to think the caucus is not receiving the support it deserves from other organizations that reside in its hall. If they stood behind the decision of the black caucus they would make it easy to resolve because support is given. Remember, united we stand and divided we fall.

It has taken many years for black caucus to receive its present respects - do not turn back the clock. Good luck Shaw Hall Black Caucus, I support your decision. For the others, scrambling for money should allow you to work together.
