With Homecoming hitting MSU today, preparations are underway to welcome about 700 alumni back to the banks of the Red Cedar.
The MSU Alumni Association is sponsoring the annual Green and White Homecoming Brunch at the Kellogg Center on Saturday.
Its a fun activity, said Keith Williams, Alumni Association executive director. This is a time thats very exciting. Were talking about the Homecoming weekend when we have lots of activities planned.
The brunch, which is open to the public, costs $25 for members of the association and $35 for nonmembers. Children 12 and under can purchase tickets for $10. Among those set to be featured at the brunch include MSU President M. Peter McPherson, mens head basketball coach Tom Izzo and the Spartan Marching Band.
The brunch will be held in the Kellogg Centers Big Ten rooms A, B and C. Williams said the brunch would be the perfect precursor to the game against the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
Homecoming has traditionally been a time when alumni and others come back and visit parts of campus, he said. Its a special time to come back. They come back partly for those reasons, but also to participate in all the activities that have been planned for them.
David Andrews, news anchor for WILX-TV, Channel 10 in Lansing, will be the banquets emcee. He said hes looking forward to Saturdays event.
It sounds like its going to be action-packed, full of music, food and fun, he said. Thats quite an honor to be part of an event and a lot of the Spartan movers and shakers are going to be there so it should be fun.
Andrews said he was anxiously awaiting the brunch. And although he was born and raised in Wisconsin, he said hell be rooting for MSU.
Im a born-again Spartan, he said. To get into the spirit I just went to the secretary of states office and got my MSU license plate.
